I am a big believer in interval workouts . Not only do they keep the intensity high, it makes it much easier to get through each fitness move. I mean, you could do ANYTHING if its just one minute right?!?
In this workout, you alternate between one minute sprints, and one minute of weights with a 5 minute hill climb at the end. Get ready to SWEAT!

I am a big fan of smoothies, especially after a great workout! A spinach smoothie, however, did not seem appetizing to me. I mean seriously, adding spinach to a fruit filled beverage does not sound appetizing to me.
But after reading great reviews from other Green Monster enthusiasts I finally gave in and added spinach to my smoothie for the first time- and I am hooked! Adding spinach to your smoothie not only gives it an awesome color, it is such a great way to sneak some veggies into your diet. You can see the spinach, but you can’t taste it- I promise 🙂 .

I LOVE fitness gadgets. Maybe it has something to do with being married to a “techie”, but when I work out, I am monitored by at least one of my favorite fitness gadgets. They keep me MOTIVATED, and give me the info I need to push myself harder during a workout. Take a look at some of my latest obsessions..
Polar F4 Women’s Heart Rate Monitor
The Pros: My heart rate monitor is hands down my favorite gadget. I wear it whenever I am doing a cardio or circuit workout. It provides you with very important pieces of information, the 2 biggies being your heart rate and calories burned. Your heart rate is super important, the higher it is the harder your body is working during your cardio workout. The calories burned feature of the monitor is awesome. Since the monitor takes into account your height, weight, age, gender, and heart rate, the calories burned are more reliable than estimates from a cardio machine. On cold winter days, its hard for me to get motivated to leave my nice warm house and head to the gym! Luckily, I have a lot of workouts saved from over the years that can be done at home. Here is one of my absolute favorites. This circuit workout involves 4 minutes of cardio intervals, with 2 different toner moves (each move involves two sets of 15).
You will need:
- A set of dumbbells ( I use 8 pound weights, 5 or 10 would work just fine as well)
- An exercise ball
- A resistance band
- A mat

Tonight, the hubby and I made a very delicious soup adapted from a recipe shared by one of my best friends Aziza. It turned out really well, and we can’t wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow night!
1 Chicken breast (We bought our chicken from our local farmer’s market, nothing beats knowing where your food is from!)
1/2 Onion, chopped
1/2 yellow pepper, chopped
1 Roma tomato, quartered
2 cloves minced garlic
1 can of fire roasted tomatoes
1 can of corn – strained
1 can of black beans – strained

About Vida Granola
Thank you for visiting Vida Granola! My name is Alex, and I am a 25 year old newlywed with a passion for healthy food, nutrition, and living an active life. I am adamant about maintaining my healthy lifestyle throughout my first year of marriage and avoiding the “newlywed 15”. I worked extremely hard to look as physically good as possible on my wedding day, and I hope to maintain my current active and healthy lifestyle, by staying motivated!
My Thoughts on Food
I believe in treating food as fuel for your body. Eating whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean meats are the most efficient sources of energy for you. I try to eat foods with natural and wholesome ingredients, avoiding processed foods whenever possible. I read labels. If I don’t recognize or can’t pronounce an ingredient, I stay clear. I try my best to eat organically and locally and love my weekly trips to the farmers market. With that said, I am NOT perfect. I occasionally succumb to my cravings for ice cream, pizza, and chocolate! But when these cravings hit, I try to satisfy my appetite in the healthiest way possible- choosing low fat ice cream, whole wheat crust and vegetable filled pizzas, and dark chocolate.
I count my calories. It makes me accountable for every spoonful I put in my mouth. It really opened my eyes to portions, serving sizes, and the quality of calories.
I LOVE eating delicious and healthy foods and hope that you enjoy the recipes featured on Vida Granola.
My Thoughts on Exercise
By nature, I am an active person and I love to exercise. I workout for three days, followed by one day of rest. I get bored with doing the same type of workout every day so I tend to go to fitness classes two to three days a week. Fitness classes keep things fresh, and motivational sense you have an instructor to push you! For me, a great workout involves sweating from head to toe and really pushing yourself physically! I enjoy intense and challenging workouts. I like to FEEL like I am working my muscles.
The workouts featured on Vida Granola are guaranteed to make you sweat!
